It's Not Wade, But It May Be Collectable

It may not be Wade, but it can be collectable. Here are some examples of pieces that are so similar to Wade that often times people have been fooled into paying top dollar for them thinking that they are. Many of these pieces came from Japan, China and Germany, as well as from the UK and the US. Not necessarily knock-offs, although there is one Irish pottery called 'Knock", it is more a case of all the potteries borrowing from each other. In much the way that modern clothes designers work now, each may see a part from different lines that they like, and they incorportate them into their own designs.

Figures based on Wade show up in many interesting forms. These pieces are made of materials other than porcelain, based on the Wade molds. Some appear to be made from castings from the actual pieces, where as others are very cleverly sculpted.

The following examples are Wade pieces, but nothing that we would recommend purchasing. Some are known as 'Dug-up Wade". These are pieces that were deemed damaged by the factory and thrown away. A large portion of these pieces were used as filler when building a nearby car park. Years later, the car park was dug up and enterprising souls took the damaged pieces. These were then put out on the market as "one of a kinds". Readily identified by their repainted eyes, missing features, etc, these may be fine as a curiosity, but are definitely not worth the premium prices that they have commanded. Other pieces have been altered since they left the factory by someone hoping to fool a buyer into thinking that they are getting a Limited Edition Gold special piece or a one of a kind.
